oh weekends ...

it was a weekend of friends, family, and fun times :). oh and furballs too ...

john arrived on friday night, 11:25pm to be exact. saturday we went to elora gorge park and walked the trails and looked at all of the pretty scenery :)

yeah that isn't exactly the best picture of us ever ... so then there are these ...

HAHAHAHAHAH i couldn't get enough of this ... even john is starting to crack a smile in a few of them :)

saturday afternoon we drove over to kitchener to pick up jason, and then went for jeff as well. drinking commenced at my house around 7:15pm, and shifted into second/third gear when cassie and jason v (hereon referred to as "jay" for simplicity) arrived on the scene. polar bear shots, mike's hard berry, and jello-shooters were my choices for the first half of the evening. things got a little complicated when jeff decided to chug a couple of beers AND two mixed drinks (with a lot of vodka in them!). pictures will follow when I get my hands on them! haha. oh jeff. to make it simple, we lost him. or he lost us. adventures :)

the evening didn't exactly go as planned, and we ended up at trappers. sadly we were short a couple of people :( due to all of the confusion (and probably also to some drunkenness!). overall it was still a good time and given that there were more than a handful of us and a heck of a lot of alcohol, i think it went pretty well!! trappers consisted mostly of rounds and rounds of shots (mostly courtesy of jay!) ... porn stars and bazooka joes! and tequila for the rest (john, cassie, jason, and jay). enter dancing and much-too-young boy thinking he might have a chance (hey, i just wanted to dance and he was all too eager, hahaha) and we headed out around 1:30 am.

poutine! and alleyway pees (boys!) and we finally made it home, super drunk and ready for sleep.

the morning was quite smooth -- well really it consisted of sleeping. the afternoon included a trip to kitchener to drop off cassie and jason, and then a trip to the bus station to drop off john. half an hour later, mom dad and chelsey were here with presents and cake and we headed to east sides! a little embarassment and lots of delicious food :).

we came home and ate MORE!! .....

(in case you're wondering, the button reads "I AM turning into my mother!")

hahaha ... chelsey got it for me ... and it's so true!

oooh and then i won $50 on a crossword scratch ticket - THANKS MOM!! :)

that was my weekend. oliver and i are both kinda tired now, so i think we might just call it a night. i will be posting more pictures of the kitties soon!

it's teeny, it's furry, and it goes *mew*

that's right, it's a KITTEN!!! not butterbean ... that didn't work out. however, meet (unsure if this name is final) --- OLIVER!

Oliver ... until today known as "Toddy" ... is what the vets call a "rescue kitten". One of the vets who works at the vet clinic in walkerton found him, literally on the yellow line of Hwy 4 (for those of you who aren't sure where I mean, the highway between hanover and walkerton .. the one i live on ...). at the time he was so tiny that at first, they thought he was a hamster! after a couple of weeks of lots of love and nursing, he was deemed "ready for a new home".

enter me. i called that particular vet clinic to inquire about "free kitten" postings, and was immediately informed "we have a rescue kitten!". right up my alley :) (remember, kiki was "rescued" from the guelph humane society).

so kiki now has a friend and i have a new bundle of fur (a lot of fur ...). my life, and this blog, just got more interesting! stay tuned for updates on both, as well as photo documentation of Oliver's growth. :)

in the meantime, the two of them are taking turns following each other around the apartment. things are going quite well -- i'm glad kiki is so friendly and adjusts well. she wasn't exactly thrilled at oliver checking out HER food bowl, but hey, i'm good at "redirection" and it wasn't too difficult to show him where his kitten bowl is!

alright, i've spent the last 28 or so hours distracted by kitten-ness ... i'd better consider some more homework!

kiki is weird. like, really weird. she likes to stick her face, head, ears, paws, arms, and even tail under the running water in the sink. it's provided quite a bit of entertainment for me! and really, cleaning the water off of the walls, mirror, etc in the bathroom is worth watching her do it :).

case in point ...

have i turned into a crazy cat lady? perhaps.

yes, yes i have.

onward now, it has come to my attention that there is an adorable, super cuddly little kitten crying out for adoption (by me, if not by chelsey). i'm seeking feedback on this possiblity (though it is still pending roommate approval). in case description alone is not sufficient ..... see cuteness:

already adorably named, butterbean is crying for my love ... can't you hear him?

*meow* love me! *meow*

we've got enough crazy around here to last us a while ........

Spa anyone?

Kris and i are planning a trip. the kind of trip where you spend a whole lot of money in a matter of two days and are oh-so-spoiled while you are there :) it's going to be great!

after considering spending 20 hours going to and from montreal by train, and several hundred dollars on travel and accommodations, we have decided that our money is MUCH better spent on a one night spa-getaway. any suggestions?

my personal favourite thus far is the first one we looked at -- deerhurst resort in the muskokas. can you say romantic night away? ;)

http://www.deerhurstresort.com/specials_getaways.html

although the 'taste of romance' sounds very appetizing, i am still lured in by the offer of a 'spa credit' that comes with the 'taste of muskoka' package. perhaps our second honeymoon can include chocolate, wine, and a blindfold :)

i know you're envious. i would be too. we're just so fabulous, really. and when we get back from our pampering, we'll be fabulous, relaxed, and extra pretty!

:) see you at the spa!

It's about Tortitude

If ever again I even THINK about taking summer courses, someone slap me.

and just to prove how un-motivated i really am ...

meet kiki!

Until a month ago, i had never really met a "tortie". for those of you who are equally naive, allow me to enlighten you on what i have learned since brining miss kiki home from the guelph humane society.

simply put, she's weird. she does a lot of little, strange things that i had never seen in a cat. for instance, she is OBSESSED with her litter box. to the point where she meticulously digs and digs and digs until the litter is piled equally at both ends of the box. then she spends several minutes pawing at the outer corners of the box ... the plastic ... as for why she does this .... i really don't know.

after observing her continuted "weirdness" i decided to google "tortie". it seems i am not alone in my observations of her strange and sometimes rather annoying behaviour. it appears that kiki suffers from what is widely known as:

"tortietude"

a major case of it.

"People often talk about the "tortie temperament," which says that torties tend to be very nervous and jumpy, sometimes have an 'attitude,' (commonly referred to as "tortietude") and are prone to hyperactivity. They are also very sweet and loving when calm, but are easily riled up and very high strung."

this happens to describe kiki quite perfectly. in fact, when she is not sleeping or snuggling me (and i mean going CRAZY snuggling) she is trying to see what she can do to get momma's attention. this usually means being on the nightstand, pawing at the lamp ... or pulling push-pins out of the bulletin board to chase them around ... or trying to steal highlighters from the table ... anything really.

more to come .. likely from kiki herself. her life is much more interesting than mine at the moment!
